Thank you so, so much!
We have had such a wonderful start to our year! Thank you for all you have done to help our little ones transition smoothly to their Kindergarten Adventure! Important Things CHECK LIST: The beginning of the year is a flurry of forms and things to sign-up for. Here is a little check-list to help get it all in!
Our students are on their way to being GREAT LEARNERS! We are doing so well with our mourning routines and I am sooooo excited for the rest of the school year! Today in Reading, we did a quick “Literacy Rotation” to give a taste of what our Reading time will look like and I was very impressed with how well the students were engaged in each station! This is when small groups of students travel around the room for different reading/writing experiences. This is also where Guided Reading happens! So far we have worked on attention-getters to have a smooth transition. We spent some time on the computers, phonics activities, and “book shopping” to get us ready for the week. Writing: Today we worked on our first piece of writing. “What can you CREATE with JUST a dot?” There were so many wonderful ILLUSTRATIONS – come and see on curriculum night! Math: Math is in high gear! We have been spending time exploring our new materials such as pattern blocks, write and wipe boards, counting beans and workbook pages! I am thrilled at how much they love each new thing and are so willing to take risks! We will be working on counting carefully and accurately by touching each object, moving each piece as we count, and keeping track. We will also begin number writing 1-5. This is a critical time in your student’s math life. We work VERY hard with numbers 1-5. At times this may seem slow to families. Please trust that mastering composing/decomposing, accurately touch counting in different formations, writing and problem solving 1-5 at this developmental age is challenging and necessary to build a solid foundation for things to come. Social Studies/Social-Emotional Learning The Issaquah School District adopted a new Social Studies Curriculum last year and I LOVE it! It takes all of my favorite books such as “Pete the Cat” and “David Goes To School” and intertwines wonderful lessons. This fall we will be learning about School Rules & Routines and Identity! Ask your child what he/she learned from Pete the Cat and David J Hint: Whole Body Listening & Good Choices :) IMPORTANT DATES: Sept. 17: Curriculum Night 6:00-7:30 Sept. 27: Picture Day (Individuals) Oct. 4: Popcorn Friday (Free) Oct. 11: Fall Dance Oct. 14: Teacher work day (No school for students) Oct. 29th: Picture Retake Day |
